Artist Statement

I work primarily in figurative painting.

I am drawn to people in whom the world that has shaped them can be read. Through painting, I ask myself a simple question: how can that world be made visible?

My work begins with the human figure. I am interested in gesture, posture, clothing, and the material environment — all the elements that carry traces of personal and cultural experience.

My paintings grow out of observing people, family history, migration, and everyday life. Observation, memory, family history, and lived experience help me make that connection visible.
